The basics
What is DTF?
DTF (Direct to Film) is a premium heat transfer printing method that allows vibrant, durable full-colour prints on almost any fabric and garment — from t-shirts to caps to backpacks.
Do I need a heat press?
Yes. DTF transfers require a heat press for application. We do offer various size heat presses as well as accessory packs and training.
Do you offer wholesale pricing?
Yes. DTF Africa is built specifically for trade customers.
Artwork & files
What file format do you need?
PNG with a genuine transparent background, at 300 dpi measured at final print size. The builder flags anything below that before you check out. We can't use JPEGs with a white background unless you run them through background removal first — which is built into the builder.
My artwork was rejected. Why?
The two usual causes are resolution below 300 dpi at print size, and a file saved without a transparent background. Both get flagged at upload rather than after printing.
Can you fix or redraw my artwork?
Yes, we can redraw your artwork for an additional fee. We’ll confirm the cost before proceeding.
Do you print white ink?
We print a white base layer beneath your design to keep colours vibrant and opaque, even on dark garments.
Can I upload a sheet I laid out myself?
Yes. Upload a Gang Sheet takes a print-ready file at the sheet size you want and a quantity, and skips the builder entirely.
Do you remove backgrounds?
Yes. Automatic background removal is available.
Pricing & payment
Are your prices including VAT?
The pricing page shows both. Use the toggle above the table to switch between incl. and excl. VAT — VAT is charged at 15%.
How much will my job cost?
Our full pricing is published, and the calculator on the pricing page works out cost per transfer from your artwork size and quantity. You do not need a quote from us.
Is there a minimum order?
No minimum order value. The smallest thing you can buy is a single A3 sheet at 600 × 420 mm.
What if my job falls between two sheet sizes?
You are charged for the next size up, which is how every gang sheet supplier works. The calculator tells you when this happens and how much room you have left — filling that space costs you nothing extra.
What about sheets longer than 5 m?
Our longest single sheet is 5 m. If your job needs more, add another sheet to the same order.
How can I pay?
By card through Stripe at checkout: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover and JCB, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Production & delivery
How long does an order take?
Standard production is 24 to 48 hours depending on order volume, plus courier time. Same-day shipping is available for orders placed before 11:00 am.
Where is my order?
Order status and courier tracking sit in your account. Every dispatch also triggers a notification email with the waybill.
Do you deliver nationwide?
Yes. We courier nationwide across South Africa. Delivery options and their cost are shown at checkout, before you pay.
Can I collect instead?
Yes. Collection is available from 6A & B Chadwick Avenue, Wynberg, Johannesburg, alongside nationwide delivery.
Something arrived damaged or wrong.
Email us your order number, a description of the issue and clear photographs promptly after delivery. If an order arrives damaged, is misprinted or contains the wrong items due to our error, we’ll arrange a replacement or reprint at our cost.
Pressing & durability
What press settings should I use?
150 °C for 15 seconds at medium pressure, then peel hot. The full steps are on the Heat Press Instructions page.
What fabrics can I press onto?
DTF works across cotton, polyester, blends, canvas and most synthetics — which is the main reason shops move to it from vinyl or screen print.
How well does it survive washing?
Wash inside out at 30 °C with a mild detergent, and air dry. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, dry cleaning and ironing directly over the print.
Halftones
What exactly does the halftone generator do?
It converts solid areas of your artwork into a pattern of dots at a frequency and angle you control. Less ink goes down, so the transfer feels softer on the garment, flexes with the fabric instead of cracking, and costs less to produce.
When should I use halftones?
Large solid fills, distressed or vintage-look designs, and anything printing onto stretchy fabric. Fine text and small logos are usually better left solid.
Does halftoning change my price?
No. Screening your artwork reduces ink laid down and softens the finished press, but the sheet price is based on sheet size, not coverage.
Trade accounts
Who qualifies for a trade account?
DTF Africa supplies businesses that decorate or resell apparel — print shops, branding companies, apparel decorators and promotional product suppliers.
Do I need to be VAT registered?
No. VAT registration is only needed if you want VAT invoices issued in your company name so you can claim the input tax back.
How long does approval take?
We aim to approve complete applications within 1–2 working days.
Can I reorder a previous gang sheet?
Every sheet you build is saved to your account with its full layout. Reordering pulls the exact same nest and prices it at today's rate.
